Dalian enjoys convenient transport links – nationally and internationally, with large air, sea and land transportation all integrated into a modern three-dimensional high volume, efficient transportation network. Dalian Port is a world-famous natural deep water harbour, which is ice-free all year and does not suffer from silt build up. The port has more than 70 berths, 40 of which are over 10,000 tons, and has established trade and transportation links with more than 300 ports in more than 160 countries and regions in the world.

Dalian Port is the largest grain and oil transshipment port in China, handling more than 70% of the sea cargo and more than 90% of the container transportation in northeast China. After launching the 300,000-ton crude oil terminal and 300,000-ton ore terminal, the port capacity is upgraded to a capacity of 33 million tons.In 2007, it is expected to complete a cargo throughput of 220 million tons and a container throughput of 3.8 million standard containers-this is over 12 years ago!!

There are not only passenger transportation routes to Shanghai, Tianjin, Yantai, Weihai and Incheon, but also more than 40 international freight routes to countries and regions such as the United States, Japan and India. The Yantai-Dalian railway ferry project has greatly shortened the freight transportation distance between Liaodong peninsula and Shandong peninsula giving easy access to the whole of China’s rich Eastern seaboard.

Dalian has very convenient land transportation. The railway system – including China’s High Speed train infrastructure - connects with the railway networks throughout north and northeast China.

Road transport is efficient with the highway network extending in all directions. The Shenyang-Dalian Expressway, known as “China’s First Highway”, the high-grade highway from Dalian to Dandong, “Huanghai Road”, and the “Lvshun South Road” from Dalian to Lvshun have become the traffic arteries that have revitalized Dalian’s economy. Local transport within the urban area is convenient, including rail transit, trolley buses and bus routes, equipped with the some of the world’s most advanced traffic control system.

Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport is suitable for the very largest passenger and freight aircraft and has opened hundreds of international and domestic passenger air routes and is the largest cargo air transport base in northeast China. Finally, a new International airport is being constructed with a planned opening date of 2020. It is planned to have scheduled flights from here to the UK.
